Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Manger develops, implements and manages quality assurance systems to ensure the continuous quality of life saving, mission critical products. The Quality Assurance Manager will identify, develop and implement procedures that will improve product quality, as well as identify causes and help reduce the rate of production defects in manufacturing. This position is also accountable for the direction, leadership, planning, quality, staffing, customer satisfaction and communication within the quality department which they oversee.

Quality Assurance Manager Accountabilities

  • Evaluate subordinates’ performance, correct deficiencies, coach subordinates, and recommend merit increases
  • Empower and encourage employee initiative
  • Own employee performance management process
  • Ensure a high level of internal and external customer service. Investigate (and correct) internal issues and complaints relating to quality
  • Monitor and act upon key quality measurements, in order to meet and exceed customer expectations
    • Develop/Monitor KPI’s based on the QA functions and develop RCCA based on metrics
    • Analyze data and initiate appropriate preventive actions for quality improvements
  • Promote use of SPC, Mistake proofing, FMEA, and other 6 Sigma and lean tools
  • Formulate, document and maintain quality control standards and on-going quality assurance objectives
  • Create, document and implement inspection criteria and procedures
  • Interpret quality assurance philosophy to key personnel within company
  • Provide and oversee inspection activity for product throughout production cycle
  • Maintain active role on internal continuous improvement teams
  • Understand customer needs and requirements to develop effective quality control processes
  • Work to establish, promote and maintain high level quality through continual process improvement
  • Develop, maintain and grow quality control plans using risk analysis
  • Support internal Quality system to satisfy company requirements
  • Act as liaison between necessary teams to achieve a desired outcome; i.e. production, engineering, program management, etc.
  • Optimize and monitor resource allocation and utilization
  • Work with human resources to resolve employee conflicts and issues
  • Subject matter expert for IPC-610, J-STD-001 and IPC-620
  • Primary contact for customer and government source inspectors
  • Primary interface with customers regarding rejections
  • Works with the QE’s to implement improvement plans in order to improve quality performance

Administration:

  • Keep in line with company’s accredited certifications and safety policy
  • Administer all personnel related activities including career and succession planning, back ups for operational continuity, performance appraisals, annual reviews, recruitment, training and other Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Provide effective leadership and motivation to staff.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and participation in problem solving process

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering/Management or equivalent, 5-7 years experience in Quality Engineering and leadership, or a combination of education and experience

Other Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Ability to create and maintain positive working relationship with peers, managers and customers.
  • Acceptance Criteria (IPC-A-610, IPC-J-STD-001)
  • Understanding of currently certified QMS standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, Nadcap, ISO 14001)
  • ASQ CQE, CQM, or CMQ/OE (preferred)

Computer Skills:

  • Intermediate Microsoft Word skills as evidenced by the ability to perform all of the basic functions as well as create moderately complex documents containing tables and graphs, and ability to mail merge documents, apply page setup functions (margins, page numbers, footers, headers), create an index and/or table of contents, use search & replace, print labels and envelopes.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills as evidenced by the ability to perform all of the basic functions as well as the ability to use workbooks, link data, create and edit charts, change page orientation, add headers and footers, filter and sort lists, format data, insert rows, enter and sort data and produce graphs and charts.
  • Intermediate Microsoft PowerPoint skills as evidenced by the ability to create (from a master template) standard IEC reports including charts, pictures and notation.
